How to Add a Host Alert Contact to a Device Template

See How to Edit a Device Template to see how to open the device template editing page.

Once you’ve navigated to the device template editing page, in the “Host Alert” section of the “Template Components” panel, click the add host alert contact button to open the host alert contact selection page.

Click the plus button to add a new host alert contact action group to a device template.

On the page that follows:

The dialog for selecting a host alert contact.
  1. In the CONTACT NAME field, select the action group containing the desired contact.
  2. In the ESCALATION TIER field, select the escalation tier at which the above contact will receive an alert notification due to a failed host check by any device affected by this template. (See the entry for host alert contacts for an explanation of how escalation tiers work.)
  3. Click the Add Contact button to add the host alert contact to your device template.

You may add as many host alert contacts as necessary. When finished, it is not necessary to click the Update button on the template main edit page. This is only required when editing authentication credentials.

Unlike other settings applied by device templates, host alert contacts are added to devices cumulatively. So, they will not override or remove host alert contacts added by other templates or added manually to the device itself. They are simply added as additional contacts, alongside the ones already there.

If you’ve added host alert contacts to a device template that is already applied to any devices, navigate back to the Device Templates Administration page using the arrow icon at the top left of the page and reapply your device templates.
