Actions Administration Pages

Actions Administration Page

This page is where action groups, actions and methods are created and managed. It is only available to users with SuperAdmin privileges.

The Actions Administration page can be found by navigating to Administration → Alerts → Actions.

Page Features

“Add A Group” Button
Click this button to add a new action group to OmniCenter. When clicked, the Add Action Group page (see below) will open, allowing you to create and configure a new action group. The new action group will then be available for you to select when configuring an OmniCenter check.

“Actions Cloud Library” Button
Click this button to open the Action Cloud Library page (see below), where preconfigured action groups can be downloaded. If you are using a stand-alone OmniCenter, then the action groups displayed are from the Netreo cloud library. If your OmniCenter is a client of an Overview, then it will open the Action Cloud Library of the Overview cloud libraries, instead of the Netreo cloud.

“Collapse / Expand” Button
This button collapses/expands the display of actions and methods for all action groups so that the Actions Administration page can be displayed as a simple list of action groups or a fully expanded and detailed display of action groups and all of their individual actions and methods.

The Action Group List
Below the buttons listed above are displayed all of the action groups that have been created in OmniCenter. Each action group is displayed in its own collapsable panel.

By default, all action groups are displayed in an expanded state that shows the individual actions they contain, along with the individual methods contained within each action. This display style allows you to see the configuration of all of the contained methods at once, without having to drill into each action group individually. If you wish to collapse all of the action group panels to display only the action group names, click the “Collapse / Expand” button. Action groups can then be individually expanded/collapsed by clicking on the name of the action group.

The title bar for an action group will be colored green if that action group is selected for use in any OmniCenter check. It will be colored red if the action group is not currently selected for use in any check.

The title bar for an action group.

The left side of the title bar displays the name of the action group (click to expand/collapse the action group’s display panel). On the right side are displayed, in order:

  • The user type required for a user to run this action group manually from the Incident View dashboard. If no user type is displayed, then the action group cannot be run manually.
  • A label indicating whether the action group is IN USE or NOT IN USE. (This label coincides with the color of the action group title bar as mentioned above.)
    • Click the IN USE label to open a modal dialog window showing the type and number of OmniCenter checks in which the action group is being used. Click a check type to expand its listing and show the individual devices and specific checks the group is being used for.
  • A label displaying the number of actions contained within the action group.
  • The ACTIONS buttons for the group, explained in the table below.
Icon Description
Upload – This button allows you to upload the action group to the Netreo cloud library if you are using a stand-alone OmniCenter, or to the cloud library of an Overview if your OmniCenter is connected as a client.
Add Action – Click this button to add a new action to the action group. Opens the Add Action page (see below).
Edit Action Group – Click this button to open the Edit Action Group page (see below) and change the configuration of the action group.
Delete Action Group – Permanently delete the action group and all of its contained actions and methods. Deleting an action group cannot be undone.

Below the title bar (when action groups are expanded) is displayed the action list.

In the DESCRIPTION column are displayed the names of any actions contained within the group. Under an action’s name, and indented slightly, are displayed any methods contained within the action. Beneath the displayed method type will appear any configured fields for that method. (Note: Mobile notifications have no configurable fields. They send notifications to all connected mobile devices.) To the right of the method type is displayed the notify hours as configured in the method. See Action Groups for more information on method notify hours.

At the far right of the list is the ACTIONS column for both actions and methods. The buttons in this column are explained below. (Note: The ACTIONS column is common to the administrative UI of many features in OmniCenter, and is not in any way specific to actions or action groups.)

Icon Description
Add Method – Click this button to add a new method to this action. Opens the Add Method page.
Edit Action/Method – Click this button to edit the action or method. For actions, opens the Edit Action page. For methods, opens the Edit Method page.
Delete Action/Method – Click this button to delete the action or method. This cannot be undone.

Add/Edit Action Group Page

This page is where action groups are configured. There are only two fields, both of which may be edited after a group is created.

GROUP NAME
Enter the desired name for the action group. This name will appear for selection in the ACTION GROUP and ESCALATION GROUP fields when configuring an OmniCenter check.

MANUAL ALERT ACCESS LEVEL
Select the user type required to run this action group manually from the Incident View dashboard. Selecting “None” means that the action group cannot be run manually.

Add/Edit Action Page

This page is where actions are configured. There is only one field, which may be edited after the action has been added to an action group.

ACTION NAME
Enter the desired name for the action. Actions are nothing more than containers for methods, so a name is their only attribute.

Note: All newly added actions automatically have the Mobile Alert method added to them. However, that method may be safely deleted, if desired.

Add Method Page

This page is where new methods are configured and added to an action. Once you select a method type and add the method, its type cannot be edited. If you want to change the method type, you will have to delete the method and add a new one. The number of configuration fields available will depend on the method type selected, and are explained further down below. However, ACTION METHOD TYPE and NOTIFY HOURS are always present regardless of method type.

Fields for All Method Types

ACTION METHOD TYPE
Select the type of the method from the drop-down selector. See Action Groups for more information about the method types available for selection.

NOTIFY HOURS
Select the hours during which this method will be allowed to execute using the drop-down selector. See Action Groups for more information on method notify hours.

Fields for Specific Method Types

Note: Remember that active response methods only execute the first time they are called, while all other method types execute every time the renotification interval configured in the check passes.

Active Response SSH

COMMAND
Enter any command of a type that can be interpreted by the intended receiving device. Can include OmniCenter macros. Due to limitations in OmniCenter, only simple, single-line commands should be sent (restart, etc.). If you wish to run complex commands, it’s better to write a script on the target device, and then simply call the script through this command method. Cannot exceed 1,020 characters in length.

Active Response Webhook

URL
Enter the URL of an API to send the webhook payload to.

PAYLOAD
Enter the webhook payload. Can include OmniCenter macros. Cannot exceed 1,020 characters in length.

Active Response Windows

POWERSHELL COMMAND
Enter a Windows PowerShell command.

E-Mail

E-MAIL ADDRESS
Enter the email address of an account that you wish to receive alert notifications.

SMS (via email)

SMS EMAIL ADDRESS
Enter the email address of an SMS message account that you wish to receive alert notifications.

SNMP Trap

SNMP COMMUNITY STRING
Enter the community string of the intended trap receiver.

SNMP COLLECTOR IP ADDRESS
Enter the IP address of the intended trap receiver.

If you wish to send traps to more than a single trap receiver, you will have to add separate SNMP trap methods for each one to your action.

Webhook

URL
Enter the URL of an API to send the webhook payload to.

PAYLOAD
Enter the webhook payload. Can include OmniCenter macros. Cannot exceed 1,020 characters in length.

Edit Method Page

This page is where existing methods are edited. This page is different from the Add Method page in that the method type selection drop-down is not present. Once a method type is selected and added to an action, it cannot be edited. The Edit Method page only allows you to change the configuration values of the type of method already selected. If you want to change the method type, you will have to delete the method and add a new one.

See the Add Method page (above) for information on the various configuration fields available for each method type.
